Top 10 Anime You Should Never Watch With Your Parents
Watching anime with your parents might sound like a bonding experience — until a weird scene pops up and suddenly you're fumbling for the remote while trying to explain, "It's not what it looks like!" Some anime are just not family-friendly, no matter how good the storyline is. Here are the top 10 anime you should NEVER watch with your parents (unless you enjoy awkward silence and judging stares).
1. High School DxD
Genre: Ecchi, Harem, Supernatural
This anime is practically a walking fanservice machine. With demons, angels, and lots of bouncing “plot,” it's hard to justify this as anything but guilty pleasure. Unless your parents are really chill (like... really), skip this one during family time.
2. Elfen Lied
Genre: Horror, Psychological, Gore
Starts off with exploding limbs and a naked girl covered in blood. Need we say more? Despite the emotional depth, it’s violently brutal and uncomfortably graphic.
3. Prison School
Genre: Comedy, Ecchi, School
You’ll laugh, yes — but in between that, there are enough over-the-top sexual innuendos to make your soul leave your body if your mom’s sitting beside you. Watch it alone, trust me.
4. Boku no Pico
Genre: [REDACTED FOR SANITY]
Do not watch this. Not with your parents. Not alone. Not at all. It’s infamous for a reason, and if someone recommends it to you — they probably don’t like you.
5. Kill la Kill
Genre: Action, Comedy, Ecchi
Incredible fight scenes, amazing animation, and outfits that make cosplay nightmares. Watching half-naked teenagers fight while screaming about clothes being power? Yeah… not a parent-friendly pick.
6. Monster Musume
Genre: Harem, Fantasy, Comedy
Cute monster girls living with a human guy — and ALL of them want to sleep with him. It's funny and spicy, but unless your parents are into tentacle jokes (please don’t be), avoid this one.
7. Redo of Healer (Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi)
Genre: Dark Fantasy, Revenge, Psychological
This anime is so dark and twisted it makes Game of Thrones look PG. Graphic revenge scenes, non-consensual stuff, and a storyline that's 90% "WTF" — hard pass with family.
8. Food Wars (Shokugeki no Soma)
Genre: Cooking, Ecchi, Comedy
Amazing dishes, great story, but… why do people moan when they eat? Foodgasms are taken to a whole new level. Watching your dad raise an eyebrow during every food scene? Unforgettable — and not in a good way.
9. Mirai Nikki (Future Diary)
Genre: Thriller, Horror, Romance
On the surface, it’s a survival game anime. But Yuno Gasai, the iconic yandere, gets really intense. There’s blood, obsession, and some uncomfortable romance. Great watch, just not with mom and dad.
10. Goblin Slayer
Genre: Action, Fantasy, Dark
The first episode alone has one of the most disturbing anime scenes ever. It sets the tone — gritty, brutal, and unforgiving. Not for the faint-hearted, and definitely not for family night.
Final Thoughts
Anime is an amazing medium — it can be emotional, funny, thrilling, and wild. But some shows push boundaries in ways that are better experienced solo. If you're looking for something to watch with your parents, stick with classics like Spirited Away, Your Name, or My Neighbor Totoro. Leave the NSFW nightmares for later.
